Tabernacle News Mrs. Polly Fuller W The church plans to assist with $20.00 toward the feeding of the Middlesex Orphanage at Corinth Holders School March 28. This is the usual custom of the Senior Class each year and local churches help out. The Rev. Thurman Stone will not be with us for our coming revival which is to start the se cond Sunday in April, as was read in a letter from him by Supt. A. R. Batten last Sunday. However he does hope to be with us in the very near future. Carlton Hinnant read a thank you note from the Casey Wileys due to money and other gifts and deeds contributed to them during this long period of illness. The time for the Wednesday Night Bible Study has been changed from 7:00 to 7:30. Principal for Vacation Bible School has been left up to the Pas tor again this year and he will get teachers and workers appointed in time to attend the clinic March 31. at Smithfield. Aaron Honey Hocutt of Watkins Chapel was a visitor at the Sun day night service. Mr. and Mrs. James Rock of Raleigh, George and Alice Ether idge and Hilda Perry of Creed more, Mrs. Duke Poole and Fran ces of Clayton, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pearce of Wendell were all visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ray Nowell during last Sunday. Mr .and Mrs. Billy Perry of Burlington visited the M. B. Al fords over the weekend. Mrs. E. B. Parrish, Crettie and Doris and Faye Painter visited the k Amos and Milford Carters near * Durham Sunday afternoon. - r Mr. Johnnie Pearce shows no improvement. Mrs. Leacie Batten remains a bout the same. The Larry Richardsons of Rocky Mount visited the Oris Richard sons during the weekend and attended church Sunday. The H. J. Masseys are back again from Baltimore, Maryland, to stay indefinitely. The Douglas Cookes visited Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Dean near Archer Lodge Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Allie Hocutt is recuperating nicely at home. Mr. Robert Height is improving at the Veteran’s Hospital in Dur ham. Mrs. J. Ray Nowell is improving ^ from her condition following her •^mother’s death and a very severe head cold. PLEASANT HILL NEWS Mrs. T. Y. Puryear Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Sherron and son Walter of Hampton spent the week end with their parents the W. T. Sherrons and the Joe Roaches. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Horton and children of Norfolk, Va., spent week end of last week with their parents, the Thurman Bakers and the Raymon Hortons. Visitors at the John Starnes Sunday were Mrs. Jack West and son Jackie of Durham, Mr. and Mrs. John Starnes, Jr., and chil dren visited the Lee Hocketts at Corinth Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Creech of Norfolk, Mrs. Carl Puryear of Ra leigh, and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Puryear and children of Youngs ville were visitors at the T. Y. Puryear Sr. Sunday afternoon. Ander son of Eagle Rock Friday after noon with 18 members present. Mrs. J. C. Pearce gave an inspiring program on Fruits of Faithful Prayer. The hostess, Mrs. J. L. Anderson, served devil food cake topped with whip cream and cof Mr. T. Y. Puryear Sr. called at Mr. G. L. Puryear’s in the Beth any section Monday. Mrs. B. K. Horton is spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. William Jones of Garner. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Williford of Raleigh called at the T. Y. Pur year Sr. Tuesday of last week. Mr. Gratis Haswell and Mrs. G. G. Ivey are home from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Rhodes had lunch with the J. P. Crafts of Martin Center also the Oliver Hortons of Raleigh had lunch. Mr. Drexel Gay spent the week end with Steve and Johnie Jones of Zebulon. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Jones vis ited the J. T. Gays Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Rhodes vis ited the Paul Hortons Sunday night. Delma Whitaker and son of Raleigh called at the S. T. Whit akers Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. James Liles of Wendell were visitors Sunday night. r Wakefield News Mrs. Vera B. Rhodes J Jimmy Hodge and David Alford were home from U.N.C., Chapel Hill, for the week end with their parents, the Raleigh Alfords and H. A. Hodges, Jr. Stewart Ferrell is improving at home after a stay in Rex Hospital. Mrs. Vera Rhodes, Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Mrs. Alice Hood, and Mrs. Hettie Vause went to Bethany Church to see the 4 passenger plane that had an emergency land ing last Tuesday in a tobacco field on Joe Bell’s, Jr., Farm. Mrs. Hettie Vause and Mrs. Alice Hood and Mrs. Vera Rhodes visited Mrs. Leanor Philips Sat. p.m. Mrs. Harold Pippin returned home last Thursday from Rex Hospital with her new daughter, Nancy Jean. The Grand Parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Pace, spent the week end here with them. Mrs. Annie P. Jones has re turned to her work after a short illness. W. H. Winstead is improving. Lelon Simpson is some better. I visited them at Rex Hospital last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Buster Simpson and family left Saturday nite for their home in Connecticut. Mrs. Jack Palmer and Piggie went back to Baltimore Sunday. Miss Betsy Simpson of Thomas ville has been with her Daddy since Thursday. Mrs. Bertha Hood and Mrs. Vera Rhodes visited the Henry Davises and G. H. Coxes and the J. T. Blackards and Dewey Rays and Mr. Sam Davis who is just home from McPherson Hospital, Dur ham, after an eye operation. We also visited the Franklin Pierces. Their daughter, Alma Lou, is just getting over mumps. The Wakefield Home Demon stration Club will meet Saturday at 2:30 for the spring dress Revue. Lizard Lick News Mn. Polly Fuller Mrs. S. C. Pearce spent Tuesday of last week with Mrs. Billy Gay. Mrs. J. T. Gay had a quilting party at her home Wednesday af ternoon of last week. Mrs. Jimmy Wootten, Donna and Linda of Wendell visited Mrs. Billy Gay Saturday afternoon. The Clerence Perrys moved last Saturday. Mesdames Flora Gay, Voncile Scarboro, Mary White Bailey and Peggy Gay were hostesses to their Missionary Circle last Monday night at the Community Center. The Billy Gays visited Sunday with the G. C. Sealeys and Ollis Andrews of Archer Lodge. Mrs. H. L. Hinnant did what was thought to be impossible. She mailed a half pound cake of coun try butter to her son John in War wick, Va., and it arrived as solid and firm as when she mailed it, so the son told her by phone. It was not sent by refrigeration either. Seems our older people have a nack of doing or saying things that the younger folk can’t believe pos sible. This was the case of Mrs. Dona Todd during the extreme cold weather in the past when she told her well of water was froze over. No one believed it until a number of spectators investigated and it was true. About an inch of ice covered the top of the water down in the well below the ground level.
